Melvin Rewerts Services Held

Melvin Rewerts died Thursday, February 3, at the Maple Manor Nursing Home in Aplington after reaching the age of 77 years, 10 months and 28 days.

Funeral services were held on Monday, February 7, at 1:30 p.m. in the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church, rural Wellsburg, with Rev. James Beranek officiating.

Pallbearers were Rick Rewerts, Darcy Rewerts, Darwin Rewerts, Lonnie Rewerts, Scott Reinke and Tim Davis.

Interment was held in the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church Cemetery near Wellsburg.

Melvin was born the son of Fred and Tillie Buss Rewerts in Dike on March 6, 1916. He received his education in the Lincoln Township country school in Grundy County.

In 1939, Melvin was united in marriage to Jennie Hook in Ackley. The couple farmed together on a farm near Wellsburg, then in 1963 they moved to their present farm south of Aplington. Melvin was a member of the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church near Wellsburg.

Melvin is survived by his wife, Jennie of Aplington; 2 sons, Larry and his wife Mildred Rewerts of Aplington, and Ervin and his wife Sally Rewerts of Aplington; 7 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Clara Geiken of Wellsburg, Thelma Evers of Cedar Falls, and Lena Aukes of Parkersburg; and 1 brother, Ernie Rewerts of Waverly.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a great-granddaughter, Alisha Davis; 1 brother, Cecil; and 2 sisters, Fannie Huisman and Laura Rewerts.
