Irene Walterman, 96, of Dike, died Friday, August 14, 2015, at NewAldaya Lifescapes in Cedar Falls. She was born July 17, 1919, in rural Aplington, Iowa, the daughter of John and Johanna (Meyer) Sessler. She married Dave Walterman. He preceded her in death March 10, 1982. She attended Iowa State Teacher’s College (UNI). Irene was a teacher at a one-room school in the Stout and Parkersburg area for seven years. She then became co-owner and bookkeeper of Walterman Implement in Dike for 32 years, retiring in 1989. She was a member of and taught Sunday School at Bethel Lutheran Church in Parkersburg for over 20 years. Irene and Dave loved their business with Massey Ferguson and enjoyed the many customers who patronized it. They supported the school and their church in Parkersburg. Irene enjoyed gardening, mowing and teaching.

Irene is survived by one daughter, Donna (Al) Schmeidel, of Waterloo; one son, Leon Walterman; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and one brother, Arthur Sessler, of Parkersburg, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; three sisters, Ruth, Anne, and Dorothy, and one brother, Andrew Sessler.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 19, 2015, at NewAldaya Lifescapes Chapel in Cedar Falls with burial at Elmwood Cemetery in Dike. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls and one hour prior to services at NewAldaya on Wednesday. Memorials may be directed to the family.
