Isabelle Eiklenborg, 77

Isabelle Eiklenborg, 77, of Dike, died November 16 at Grundy County Memorial Hospital, Grundy Center, of cancer. Funeral services were November 19 at the Reformed Church of Stout. Burial followed at the Stout Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.

Isabelle was born August 14, 1925, the daughter of Fred D. and Lena (Casjens) Harberts, at home, in rural Grundy County. She graduated from Grundy Center High School in 1944. Isabelle then attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and received her teaching certificate. She taught for several years in a number of rural Grundy County schools. On August 22, 1950, Isabelle was united in marriage to Harold R. Eiklenborg, at Colfax Center Presbyterian Church, rural Holland. She and Harold and their family lived on a farm in rural Dike. Isabelle worked for a year for the Dike Community School District in their food service department. In 1980, Isabelle began employment at the University of Northern Iowa in their food service department, retiring in 1990. Harold died on July 26, 1989.

Isabelle was a member of the Reformed Church of Stout. She had held many positions in church throughout the years, teaching catechism and Bible School. She was also very involved in the women's guild at church. Isabelle was also very active in her community, volunteering for many years at the concession stand at the Stout Ball Park. She enjoyed traveling and reading. Isabelle valued education for herself and her family. Her family was her life.

She is survived by four daughters, LuRae Eberline and her husband Jerry of Wellsburg, DaNelle Groote and her husband Sheldon of Montezuma, JoLeen Eiklenborg of Waco, TX, and CoLeen Pruisner and her husband Darwin of Boulder, CO; one son, Wendell Lee Eiklenborg of Dike; seven grandchildren; four brothers, Rev. Dick Harberts and his wife Enola of Waterloo, Russell Harberts and his wife Merelyn of Hudson, Floyd Harberts of Grundy Center and Alfred Harberts of McAllen, TX; and three sisters, Delia Rust of Grundy Center, Ruth Ascher of Grundy Center and Carolyn Harberts of Grundy Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one brother, Charles Harberts; and one sister, Cora Slifer.
