P. J. DeBeer, well-known retired Stout merchant, died at his home in Stout Tuesday morning after a short illness, at the age of 86 years. Mr. DeBeer was born in 1865 in Germany and came to this country with his parents when he was a small child. At the age of nineteen the family moved to Grundy county where his father became the first pastor of the Pleasant Valley Reformed church.

In 1890 he married Fannie Johnson of Freeport, Ill., and the couple farmed in Grundy county for ten years. In 1900 Mr. DeBeer went into business in Stout and operated a general merchandise store until 1943 when he retired. For many years Mr. DeBeer and J. G. Ellinger were associated in business in Stout. Practically all of Mr. DeBeer's life was spent in Grundy county and he numbered among his friends everybody he came in contact with.

He was interested in all community affairs and was an ardent church member and supporter.

Preceding him in death were one daughter, one brother and one step-daughter.
