Jans Huesman, Lifelong Area Resident, Dies

Funeral services for Jans Huesman were held on Tuesday, May 29, 1979, at the West Friesland Presbyterian Church near Ackley. Rev. Kenneth Remer was officiating clergyman. Mrs. Eugene Harken was organist. Music was given by a men's quartet, Marvin Aalderks, Willie Aalderks, Randy Aalderks and Merle Miller accompanied by Mrs. Arlene Pruisner, pianist, and by Mrs. Merlin Bangasser and Mrs. Gordon Fritz accompanied by Mrs. Virgil Heetland. Mrs. Anna Mae Diemer and Mrs. Florence Janssen were flower attendants. Pall bearers were Jim Schultz, Keith Huesman, Kevin Meyer, Lonnie Schultz, Randy Snittjer, and Kent Meyer. Honorary pall bearers were Kurt Meyer, Todd Huesman, and Kyle Meyer. Interment was held in the cemetery adjoining the church. Ushers were Gerald Janssen, Virgil Janssen and Eugene Harken.

Jans Huesman was born on April 17, 1898, in Grundy County, at the farm home across the road from the present Huesman farm. He was the son of Meint and Annie VanLoh Huesman.

On February 9, 1920, he married Ella DeVries and they made their home at the farm 1/2 mile west. He farmed his entire life there and at the present home place where they moved in 1952.

Jans and Ella confessed their faith in Christ and united in membership with the West Friesland Presbyterian Church on February 7, 1926. He served as Deacon for several years. Jans enjoyed music and sang in a male quartet for many years - both in the church and on KNWS radio from Waterloo.

On May 26, Jans died at the Presbyterian Home in Ackley, after being ill for several months at home with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, two infant brothers, two sisters, Mary Janssen and Jennie Johnson, one daughter, Helen (Mrs. Donald Snittjer), and one infant grandchild.

He is survived by his wife Ella at home, four children; Anna (Mrs. Rueben Schultz) of Fresno, California; Meint of Titonka, Iowa; Fern (Mrs. Alvin Meyer) of Ackley; and LeRoy of Ackley; two grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Also by seven sisters: Mrs. Tena Boelts, Lizzie Huesman, Esther (Mrs. Fred Janssen) and Leona (Mrs. Lucas Spencer) all of Ackley; Mrs. Anna Riebkes of Wellsburg; Lydia (Mrs. George DeBoer) of Aplington and Johanna (Mrs. Joe Janssen) of Cedar Falls, and one brother, Klaas of Ackley.
