Mrs. L. H. Luitjens

Gepke Meyers was born in Ogle county, Illinois, July 6, 1862. She came to Grundy County about 1866 and settled in Shiloh township, her father, John Meyers, being one of the early settlers in this county.

On the 24th of December 1881 she was married to L. H. Luitjens of Melrose township where she and her husband have lived ever since except a few years spent in Hardin and Sioux counties.

She was ill for about a year and a half until August 26, 1906, she quietly passed away leaving to mourn her loss her husband and seven children, her mother, Mrs. John Meyer and sister Mrs. J. J. Heikens.

The funeral was held at her late residence August 29, 1906 conducted by Rev. Theilken and the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery two miles west of Wellsburg. The funeral was attended by a large number of friends of the family.
