Death Of Mrs. Geerdes

Wellsburg Herald: Mrs. Heye G. Geerdes, who was born Greitje B. Ruter, died Saturday morning, June 15th, at the family home in Wellsburg, of cancer.

Her death was unexpected, although she had been failing for months. But the end came more quickly than even her nearest relatives anticipated.

Mrs. Geerdes was about 56 years of age, and leaves a son, George H. Geerdes, a daughter, Mrs. Flora Gimer of Riceville, and a devoted husband, together with a brother, Claus Ruter, and a sister, Mrs. John Geerdes, and other relatives to mourn her passing. She was born in Stephenson county, Illinois, and came to Iowa when an infant of three years with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben R. Ruter, in 1865. All her life was passed in Grundy county. She was married in 1884 to Heye G. Geerdes, moving to the home farm two and one-half miles west of Wellsburg, where the family resided up to five years ago, when they moved to Wellsburg and built a pleasant home.

The funeral was held Thursday June 20th, at 1:00 o'clock at the house and second service at the Bode church west of Wellsburg, where interment was made.
