Mrs. Bode Dies Suddenly
While visiting at the home of her sister, Mrs. P. Eekhoff at Wellsburg, Mrs. H. Bode of Parkersburg was suddenly stricken with heart trouble late Saturday night and passed to her eternal rest before two o'clock Sunday morning before medical aid could be given.
Mrs. H. Bode was born near Bunde, Ostfriesland, Oct. 19, 1849. She came to America in 1865 and was married to H. Bode in 1868. In the years of her young womanhood she became a member of the Christian Reformed Church of German Valley, Illinois. With her husband and family she moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1877 and later, after her husband entered the ministry moved to Wellsburg, where he served the church west of Wellsburg for many years. Later the family moved to Sioux Center, Iowa, then to Leighton, Iowa. After the death of her husband in 1900 she moved to Parkersburg and has resided in that community until her death Sunday morning, Feb. 19, 1922, reaching the age of seventy-two years and four months.
Mrs. H. bode leaves to mourn her departure, three sons, Prof. Dr. Boyd Bode of University of Ohio, John Bode of Woden, Iowa, and Neel Bode of Ceylon, Minnesota, and three daughters, Gertrude Tammen, wife of T. R. Tammen of Parkersburg, Mary Boston, wife of Frank Boston, of Oskaloosa and Ida Prine, wife of Homer Prine of Oskaloosa, besides two sisters, several grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at Parkersburg, Revs. H. Beld and W. Bode officiating and Wednesday afternoon at the Bode church west of Wellsburg, Rev. H. C. Bode in charge. Interment was in the cemetery west of Wellsburg beside her husband.
Mrs. H. Bode was a kind hearted, sainted Christian. Her departure is her gain. We shall miss her for she was often a visitor in our town, being an aunt of Dr. W. Bode.
