Mrs. Peter Ruter Is Cancer Victim

Mrs. Peter H. Ruter, 63, died in the Deaconess hospital in Marshalltown at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon of cancer. She had been ill for some time but was taken to the hospital only Sunday morning.

Mrs. Ruter was the daughter of the late Jibbe Ross and was born March 26, 1880 in Wieblesum, Germany. When a year old she came to this country with her parents. January 16, 1902, she was married to Peter H. Ruter of Grundy County and since her marriage had made her home on a farm five miles southwest of here. Mr. Ruter died in 1938.

Mrs. Ruter is survived by four children, Herman and Jessie at home, James of Ackley and Mrs. Hank Brower of Hampton, three sisters, Mrs. Peter Bakker, Mrs. E. J. Riekena and Mrs. W. H. Meyer, all of Wellsburg, and by two brothers, Heye Ross of Renville, Minn., and Evert Ross of Wellsburg.

Funeral services were held at the home at 1:30 o'clock this afternoon and later at the First Christian Reformed Church west of town in charge of the pastor, Rev. Louis Voskuil. Burial was in the cemetery adjoining the church.

The pallbearers were nephews of the deceased and were Bunger Aldrich, Eike Ruter, Harry Eekhoff, Lawrence Ackerman, Louis Ackerman, Emery Riekena.

Mrs. Peter Ruter Dies at Hospital Sunday Afternoon

Mrs. Peter H. Ruter died quite suddenly at the Deaconess hospital in Marshalltown about 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon. Though Mrs. Ruter had been in failing health from cancer the past six months, her condition was not regarded as critical. She was able to attend to household duties and had worked in the garden Saturday. About five o'clock Sunday morning she became critically ill and a doctor was called, who had Mrs. Ruter taken to the hospital where she died in the afternoon. She was 63 years old last March.

Funeral services were held at the home 4 1/2 miles southwest of Wellsburg early Wednesday afternoon and later at the First Christian Reformed church. Burial was by the side of the husband in the cemetery adjoining the church. The local pastor, Rev. Louis Voskuil, conducted the services.

Lived Here 62 Years
Mrs. Ruter's maiden name was Grace Ross. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jibbe Ross. She was born in Germany. When she was a year old she came to this country with her family. They located on a farm in Shiloh township. 62 years of Mrs. Ruter's life was spent here. She was born March 26, 1880.

In 1902 Grace Ross and Peter H. Ruter were married. They began housekeeping on the farm where the couple spent their remaining years. Mr. Ruter died five years ago on the 2nd of this month.

Surviving are two sons and two daughters. The daughters are Jessie Ruter, who is at home, and Nettie, now Mrs. Henry Brower of Franklin county. One son, Herman, is at home, and the other son, James, operates a farm near Ackley. There is one grandchild. There are two surviving brothers and three sisters. The brothers are Evert Ross, Wellsburg, and Heye Ross, Renville, Minn. The sisters are Mrs. W. H. Meyer, Mrs. E. J. Riekena and Mrs. Peter Bakker.
