Florence Gimer Is Interred Here Saturday

Mrs. Florence Gimer passed away Monday evening, January 23, 1978, at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo due to complications of advanced age. She had been taken to the hospital on the 21st for treatment of a broken hip suffered in a fall. She reached the age of 84 years, 3 months and 19 days.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 28, 1978 at 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church. Rev. Leslie Kuiper officiated at the services. Special music was given by Richard Schafer who sang two selections. Miss Elizabeth Eekhoff was organist. Flower attendants were Miss Ordie Beecroft and Mrs. Albert Huisman. Pall bearers were Thomas Gimer, Woodrow Homan, Frank Folkerts, Jack Fraseur, Willard Riekena, and Elmer Fritzel. The interment service was held in the First Christian Reformed Church cemetery. Doyen Funeral home was in charge of arrangements.

She was born in Wellsburg on October 4, 1893, the daughter of Heye and Grietje (Ruter) Geerdes. She attended the Wellsburg Schools. On October 5, 1916, she was united in marriage to Ray J. Gimer at Wellsburg. Following their marriage they lived in Riceville where Mr. Gimer operated a Creamery. In 1919 they moved to a farm west of Wellsburg. In 1936 they moved to Wellsburg where they purchased the Creamery. In 1944 they retired and continued to make their home in Wellsburg. Mr. Gimer passed away on February 12, 1975.

Mrs. Gimer was a long time member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Wellsburg having made confession of her faith in Jesus Christ on September 26, 1913, and also was a member of the Ladies Guild of the church.

Preceding her in death were: her parents, her step-mother and one brother George Geerdes.

Those who survived are: her daughter, (Gladyce), Mrs. Mayo Tjaden of Wellsburg; 2 grandsons, Darryl Tjaden of Nashua, New Hampshire; Douglas Tjaden of Wellsburg and many other relatives and friends.
