Funeral Service Is Held Thursday For Mrs. Doolaard

Funeral services for Mrs. Grietje Doolaard were held on Thursday, December 12, 1974 at 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church. Rev. Harold Hollander was clergyman. Music was furnished by a men's quartet, Harvey Eiten, Alfred Eiten, Willis Bakker and Richard Schafer. Mrs. Jack Bakker was organist and Mrs. Claus G. Primus was accompanist. Mrs. Esther Daleske and Mrs. Gerald Bakker were flower attendants. Pallbearers were Darrel Heetland, Floyd Heetland, Tony Doolaard, Albert Eertmoed, Leonard Roggeveen, and Harold Jaspers. Interment was made in the First Christian Reformed Church cemetery.

Mrs. Doolaard passed away shortly before noon, Monday, December 9, 1974, at the Maple Manor Nursing Home in Aplington due to complications of advanced age. She had been taken to the Home earlier in the day. She reached the age of 83 years, 2 months and 10 days.

Mrs. Doolaard was born on September 29, 1891, on a farm in Shiloh township west of Wellsburg, the daughter of Jan A. and Antje (Ross) Eertmoed. She attended the rural school in the area. On November 23, 1915, she was united in marriage to Cornelius C. Doolaard at Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Following their marriage they lived for a short time in South Dakota and then came back to Iowa to make their home. Mr. Doolaard passed away September 19, 1971. She had made her home on her present farm northeast of Steamboat Rock.

She was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Wellsburg, having joined the church on October 5, 1919.

Those who preceded her were: her parents, 2 brothers and 1 sister.

She is survived by: three daughters and one son: Miss Anna Doolaard of Steamboat Rock; Cornelius J. Doolaard of Steamboat Rock; (Nellie), Mrs. Elmer Heetland of Ackley; Miss Jennie Doolaard of Steamboat Rock; three grandsons: Darrell and Floyd Heetland, Tony Doolaard; one great-grandson, Jeremy Doolaard; one sister: Mrs. Florence Lindaman of Wellsburg and many other relatives and friends.
