Services For Arend Eckhoff Held Thursday

Funeral services for Arend G. Eckhoff were held on Thursday, August 1, at 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church west of Wellsburg. Rev. John Gorter officiated at the service.

Music was provided by Alfred Eiten who sang two selections. Miss Elizabeth Eekhoff was organist.

Flower attendants were Mrs. Edwin Baker and Mrs. Chris Christians.

Casketbearers were Henry Heeren, Jake Heeren, Henry T. Van Ellen, Chris Christians, Harry Eckhoff and Edwin Bakker. The interment service was held in the First Christian Reformed Church Cemetery.

Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Eckhoff died at 3 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, at the Valley View Nursing Home in Eldora following a lingering illness. He had been a resident of the nursing home since July 3rd. He reached the age of 66 years, 1 month and 25 days.

He was born on a farm east of Steamboat Rock on June 5, 1919, the son of Peter A. and Anna (Heeren) Eckhoff and attended the rural school in the area.

On August 24, 1940, he was married to Elsie Van Ellen at Aplington. Following their marriage they lived on a farm east of Steamboat Rock, later living on other farms in the area until 1944, at which time they moved to the Eckhoff Family Farm east of Steamboat Rock where they have since resided.

Arend was a long-time member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Wellsburg, having joined by transfer of membership on September 17, 1944.

Preceding him in death were his father, Peter A. Eckhoff, who passed away on October 9, 1968; one sister (Ordie), Mrs. Chris Green, and two sisters in infancy.

Those left to mourn his death were: his wife, Elsie; 2 daughters and 2 sons, Dr. Gary A. Eckhoff of Iowa City; (Patricia), Mrs. Jack Kinsinger of Mason City; (Audrey), Mrs. Paul Cooper of Plover, WI; Dr. Pierce Eckhoff of Des Moines; 6 grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Anna Eckhoff of the Valley View Nursing Home in Eldora; one brother, Henry L. Eckhoff of Steamboat Rock and many other relatives and friends.
