Services For Elsie Eckhoff Held Monday

Funeral services for Mrs. Elsie Eckhoff were held Monday, March 3, at 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church west of Wellsburg. Rev. John Gorter officiated.

Music was given by soloist, Alfred Eiten. Miss Elizabeth Eekhoff was organist. Mrs. Edwin Bakker and Mrs. Chris Christians took care of the flowers.

Casket bearers were Don Miller, Tom Van Ellen, Henry T. Van Ellen, William Koop, Chris Christians, and Paul Eckhoff. The interment service was held in the First Christian Reformed Church cemetery.

The Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Mrs. Eckhoff passed away suddenly early Friday morning, February 28, at her apartment in Friendship Manor in Wellsburg. She reached the age of 67 years.

She was born on February 28, 1919, in Aplington, the daughter of Ben and Evelyn (Koop) Van Ellen and received her education in the Aplington Public School graduating with the Class of 1938.

On August 24, 1940, she was married to Arend G. Eckhoff at Des Moines. Following their marriage they lived on a farm east of Steamboat Rock, later living on other farms in the area until 1944, at which time they moved to the Eckhoff family farm east of Steamboat Rock.

Mr. Eckhoff passed away on July 30, 1985. She continued to live on their farm place until November of 1985 and then moved to Wellsburg to live at Friendship Manor.

Mrs. Eckhoff was a long-time member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Wellsburg having joined by transfer of membership on September 17, 1944.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, one brother, Ben Van Ellen and one half-sister, Mrs. Lena Baker.

Those left to mourn her passing are: two daughters and two sons, Dr. Gary A. Eckhoff of Iowa City; (Patricia), Mrs. Jack Kinsinger of Mason City; (Audrey), Mrs. Paul Cooper of Plover, WI; Dr. Pierce Eckhoff of Des Moines; six grandchildren; one brother Edward Van Ellen of Aplington; one sister (Evelyn), Mrs. Earl Fink of Angelus Oakes, CA; one half-sister, Mrs. Etta Nicklaus of Parkersburg; two half-brothers, Ernest Van Ellen of Aplington; Henry Van Ellen of Clarksville and many other relatives and friends.
