Grace Schafer Services Held

Grace Schafer, 95, of Wellsburg, passed away on Saturday, July 26, at the Ackley Presbyterian Village in Ackley of natural causes.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 28, at 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church, Wellsburg. Pastor Tom Vos officiated.

Pallbearers were Brad Schafer, Gordon Woods, Don Main, Bernard Beninga, Harlan Beninga and Lary Riebkes.

Interment was in the First Christian Reformed Church Cemetery.

Grace was born on May 30, 1902, the daughter of Ausbrand and Grace (Beninga) Janssen in Grundy County.

She was united in marriage with Thomas Schafer on July 14, 1924, in the First Christian Reformed Church Parsonage in Wellsburg. They farmed all their life on the family farm west of Wellsburg.

Grace had a love for flowers and gardening. She was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church and a long-time member of the Ladies Guild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas in 1970; her parents; and 1 granddaughter, Anita Rae.

Survivors include her daughter, Gretta Schafer of Ackley; son, Richard Schafer and wife Janice of Wellsburg; 2 grandchildren, Laura Woods and husband Gordon of Wellsburg, and Brad Schafer of Wellsburg; and 3 great-grandchildren.

Doyen-Abels Funeral Home, Wellsburg, was in charge of the arrangements.
