S. H. Baldwin died at his home here Friday, following a stroke of paralysis. He had been ill about two weeks. Burial took place Sunday at Fairview cemetery. The following account of Mr. Baldwin's life is furnished us by a friend of the family:

Samuel H. Baldwin was born at Ottawa, Illinois, July 14, 1840 and died at his home, February 1, 1918, at the age of 77 years, 5 months and 27 days.

He spent the early part of his life on the Baldwin homestead. He received his education in the Ottawa schools. Later he came to Iowa and located on a farm in Tama county.

On March 2, 1871, he was united in marriage to Marie J. Marshall who died June 8, 1875. To this union was born one child, Mabel Etta.

On April 15th, 1880, he married Priscilla F. Baxter. To this union four children were born. Ada Rose is the only child living. Nine years later on the 20th of July this wife departed this life. He was a member of the Baptist church at Ottawa, Illinois.

He later started practicing law, but after a few years was compelled to give it up on account of losing his voice.

He is survived by one brother, Isaac of Fort Worth, Texas, two daughters, Mrs. J. J. Wood, of Grundy Center and Mrs. A. Wilson of Omaha, Nebr., and four grandchildren.
