Ira Cooper, Age 85, Dies

Ira L. Cooper of Grundy Center passed away at 12:15 a.m. Wednesday, August 26, at the Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center.

Graveside committal services were held at the Fairview Cemetery, Grundy Center, on Friday, August 28, at 9:30 a.m. Pastor Theodore Ertle of the First Baptist Church, officiated.

Relatives and friends were invited to the First Baptist Church following the committal services for a period of Christian fellowship and refreshments.

Mr. Cooper was born on January 15, 1902, at Sebra, MO, the son of William A. and Charlotte Bluminger Cooper. He attained the age of 85 years, seven months and 11 days.

He grew up in Missouri and later moved to Iowa. He was united in marriage to Ruth Brown on May 21, 1944, on a farm near Hudson. After their marriage, they lived in Waterloo and Hudson until 1969, when they moved and made their home in Grundy Center.

For most of his life he worked in the construction of bridges. They both became residents of the Grundy Care Center on May 31, 1985.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, four sisters and by a set of twin great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth of Grundy Center; three daughters, Mrs. Doris Young of San Antonio, TX, and Elaine and Carol Cooper of Grundy Center; one brother, Sidney Cooper of Ironton, MO; and by three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
