Helen Newberg Services Held

Mrs. Helen Elizabeth Newberg passed away at 7:45 p.m. Thursday, August 11 at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison, WI, where she was admitted on August 7 after suffering a heart attack.

Funeral services were held at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, on August 15 at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Thomas P. Harp officiated the service.

Taped musical selections were played for the prelude and postlude.

The casket bearers were George Rose, J. Wade Rose, Wesley Freed, Don Stull, Kenneth Kahl and Wilfred Coulson.

Mrs. Virginia Schultz and Mrs. Frances Sievert were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Ralph Gallaway provided his car for the family's use.

Interment was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Grundy Center. Relatives and friends were invited to Christo's Restaurant following the committal services for a period of Christian fellowship and refreshments.

Mrs. Newberg was born on June 29, 1918 at Grundy Center, the daughter of Locke Haughton Carpenter, M.D. and May Erwin Carpenter. She attained the age of 65 years, one month and 12 days. She grew up in Grundy Center and graduated from the Grundy Center High School in 1936. She then attended Cornell College at Mt. Vernon for one year and later graduated from Gates Business College in Waterloo.

She lived in Madison, WI for the last 20 years and was employed as a secretary at Team Electronics in Madison.

She was Past President and a member of the Ladies Eagle Auxiliary Lodge in Madison, Moose Auxiliary and Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and one brother.

She is survived by one brother-in-law, Dr. J. E. Rose of Grundy Center; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Erwin Carpenter of Niantic, CT; four nephews; one niece and several grand-nephews and nieces.

A memorial fund has been established. The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of the arrangements.
