Mrs. Lizzie Franz Dies Monday Morning

Mrs. Lizzie Franz died Monday morning at her home in Grundy Center. Her health had been failing gradually since she fell and broke her hip three years ago last January. From that time on Mrs. Ada Winslow was with Mrs. Franz and helped to take care of her and her household. She was a patient at the Grundy Hospital 17 days and was brought back to her home February 26th. She was 83 years old.

Mrs. Franz was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Brumm. She was born at Dixon, Iowa June 23, 1870. A number of years later she moved with her parents to Durant, Iowa. In the late winter the family moved to a farm in north Tama county. Two years later she was united in marriage to Bernard Franz. In 1892 they purchased a farm southeast of Grundy Center. Mrs. Franz resided there until 1946 when she moved to Grundy Center. Her husband and their only son, LeRoy, preceded her in death. The son died in 1948, the husband died in 1937.

Mrs. Franz was a charter member of the Grundy Legion Auxiliary, a member of the WRC, the Jolly Dozen and the Kings Daughters. She was a member of the Methodist church in Grundy Center.

Surviving are two daughters; (Freda) Mrs. Elden Hasbrouck, Grundy Center and (Gladys) Mrs. Ernest Lewis, Klemme, Iowa. Other survivors are two grandsons, five great-grandsons, two brothers, Leonard Brumm, Grundy Center and Henry, Gladbrook. There are many other more distant surviving relatives.

Services were held Wednesday afternoon in the Ferree Chapel. The services were conducted by Rev. LeRoy Bauman, pastor of the Grundy Methodist church. Burial was in the family lot in the Grundy Center cemetery.
