John Rayburn Dies In Convalescent Home
John Rayburn died Monday morning in the Christie Convalescent home at Cedar Falls where he had been a patient for a few weeks. He was 67 years old.
Funeral services were in the Ferree Funeral Chapel at 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. Burial was in the Grundy Center cemetery. The services were conducted by Rev. Leroy Bauman, pastor of the Methodist church.
John DeWitt, son of Josiah and Mary Rayburn, was born at Altamont, Kansas, May 12, 1887.
When he was a little child the family moved to Mahomet, Ill., and later to Champaign, where he grew to young manhood. He came to Grundy Center in 1910 where he has since resided.
John Rayburn and Hazel Canfield were united in marriage at Peoria, Ill., on October 11, 1913. They became the parents of one child, Bernis, now Mrs. Keith Bailey.
Mr. Rayburn was a member of the Methodist church, the Masonic Lodge and Knights of Pythias Lodge.
Surviving are the daughter, Bernis; two grandchildren, Marilyn and Bruce; two sisters, Mrs. May Medarias of San Diego, California, and Mrs. Ada Burnette, Parsons, Kansas; and one brother, Tedd Rayburn, of Champaign, Ill. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, three sisters and one brother.
