Barney Franz Dies After A Long Illness

Barney Franz died at his home southeast of Grundy Center last Sunday following an illness of about six months from anemia. Five weeks ago he was taken to a hospital in Waterloo. His condition did not improve from the hospital treatment and two weeks later he was brought to his home. He declined rapidly during the past few weeks. Prior to the beginning of his last illness, Mr. Franz had never been sick nor under a doctor's care.

Funeral services, conducted by Rev. J. B. Bird, pastor of the Grundy Methodist church, were held at the home Wednesday afternoon. Burial was in the Grundy Center cemetery.

Mr. Franz was 75 years old. He was born near Davenport in Scott county March 10, 1862. In 1886 he came to Tama county. Two years later he was united in marriage with Miss Lizzie Brumm. Six years later he and his family moved to Grundy county where he bought a farm and where he resided for 43 years. He did no active farm work in late years. He was assisted in the management of the farm by his son LeRoy.

Surviving are the widow, one son LeRoy, and two daughters, Freda (Mrs. Eldin Hasbrouck) and Gladys (Mrs. Ernest Lewis of Klemme). There are two grandchildren, Max and Paul Hasbrouck, one brother, Julius from Pipestone, Minn.
