O. A. Newton Dies Thursday Night At University Hospital

O. A. Newton died at the University hospital at Iowa City last Thursday night. He was taken to the hospital on Dec. 13 for an examination and submitted to an operation for hernia. He contracted pneumonia while at the hospital and death came a few days afterward.

The body was brought to the home in Grundy Center on Friday. Funeral services were held at the Grundy Center Methodist church Sunday afternoon. The local pastor, Rev. J. B. Bird, had charge of the services. Six of his grandsons were pallbearers.

Ovando Adset Newton was born in Vermont Apr. 26, 1850. He came to Iowa in 1870 with the Ransom Bailey family, and worked for Mr. Bailey until he began farming for himself on a farm in Lincoln township which he bought a few years after he came here, and on which he lived until he and his family moved to Grundy Center in 1910.

Mr. Newton was married Dec. 13, 1874, to Miss Mary O'Connor. They were the parents of five children, Edgar, Harry, Mabel, Samuel and Caroline. The four last named with his widow survive him. The oldest son, Edgar, died in 1933. Two brothers also survive him, Locke Newton of Hampton and Elmer Newton of Cedar Falls.

Those in attendance at the funeral of Mr. Newton from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. Henry Harms, Marshalltown; Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Laufer, Gladbrook; Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Brown, Cedar Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Robins, Reinbeck; Mrs. Ellis Dunn, Estes Park, Colo.
