Mrs. M. G. Canfield Died Last Friday After Long Illness
Mrs. M. G. Canfield died at her home in Grundy Center last Sunday following an illness of several months largely due to infirmities of old age. She was 77 years, 5 months and 13 days old. She had been a resident of Grundy county for nearly half a century.
Funeral services were held at the home Wednesday afternoon and later at the Methodist church with the local pastor, Rev. J. B. Bird, officiating. Burial was by the side of the husband in the Grundy Center cemetery.
Obituary
Elizabeth Jane Robins, daughter of Thomas and Mary Ann Robins, was born near Toronto, Canada, July 10, 1857.In her early life she moved with her parents to New York State where they resided for a number of years, coming to Grundy county, Iowa in her young womanhood.
On January 31, 1880, she was married to Manly G. Canfield at Grundy Center. Eight children were born to this union, three of whom died in early childhood. The surviving children are George E. and Lewis B. Canfield and Mrs. Hazel Rayburn of Grundy Center; Mrs. Millie Tharp of Winfield, Kansas, and Mrs. Opal Schwenn of Marshalltown.
She had been a life-long member of the Methodist church and of the Ladies' Aid Society.
Mrs. Canfield was a faithful wife, a kind and loving mother, always interested in the welfare of others. Her husband preceded her in death in February of this year.
She is survived by five brothers, Thomas, Joseph, George and Warren Robins of Grundy Center, and Lewis of Brandon, Iowa, and also eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; also numerous nephews and nieces.
Out of town relatives at the funeral were Mrs. M. A. Tharp and daughter Genene of Winfield, Kans.; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Tharp, Mr. and Mrs. O. L. Schwenn, and Mr. and Mrs. Bert Eno, Marshalltown; Mrs. James Karis, Baxter; Hugh Gibson and Harry Gibson, Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Robins, Reinbeck; Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Robins, Brandon; Mrs. Lavinnia Johnson and Miss Edith Robins, Waterloo.
Mrs. Canfield, her husband, M. G. Canfield, her mother, Mrs. Mary Ann Robins, and her sister, Mrs. C. G. Goodell, have all passed away within the last eighteen months.
