Mrs. D. A. Palmer, 65 Year Resident, Dies Suddenly

Mrs. D. A. Palmer, who had been a resident of Grundy Center for 69 years, died at her home Friday morning. She was stricken quite suddenly the evening before and she passed away before regaining consciousness. She was in her 85th year.

Mrs. Palmer's maiden name was Mary Content Gardner. She was born Sept. 14th, 1849, in Syracuse, New York.

When a young girl she came with her parents to Black Hawk county, Iowa, and came to Grundy Center in 1869, where she has since made her home. She was married Sept. 23, 1866 to Dave Andrew Palmer, who passed away Aug. 27, 1911. To them three children were born: Rosemond, Walter, and Fred. Her daughter died in 1924.

Mrs. Palmer was a member of the Methodist church, and also of the W.R.C. for the past thirty-eight years. She was a kind and affectionate mother and a good neighbor, always ready and willing to help wherever she was needed.

Her two sons survive her, Walter, of Grundy Center, and Fred of Alexandria, S.D., also two nieces whom she raised from infancy: Mrs. Hattie George of Minneapolis, and Mrs. Jessie Martz of Grundy Center; and one sister, Mrs. J. R. Lamb of Grundy Center; seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, besides nephews, nieces and a host of friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Palmer were held at the residence Monday afternoon, March 12, conducted by her pastor, Rev. James B. Bird. Mrs. L. B. Canfield sang "Shadows" and "Face to Face." Burial was in Fairview cemetery at Grundy Center.

Relatives and friends present from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. Fred Palmer of Alexandria, S.D.; Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Brewer of Malcolm, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. Lee Brewer of Sutherland, Ia.; Mrs. Jack Stough and Howard Brewer of Alpha, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. L. T. Dixon and Mr. and Mrs. Floyd McElvane of Alden, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Gardner of Fulton, S.D.; Mr. and Mrs. Jay Hawn and daughter Alice, of Mitchell, S.D.
