John Stevens Dies In Sioux City
John F. Stevens died early Wednesday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Montie Duncan, in Sioux City, with whom he had made his home since late last fall. He had been in failing health for more than a year. Death resulted from old age and complications. He would have been 82 years old had he lived until next October.
Mr. Stevens had been a resident of Grundy Center for 78 years. He was born in Platteville, Wis., Oct. 3, 1869. At the age of four years he came to Grundy Center with his parents. He grew up on a farm in the county and after his marriage he engaged in the farm machinery business in Grundy Center many years.
On September 17, 1896, he and Elsie Martz were married in Grundy Center and they lived here continually until her death July 27, 1943.
Funeral Services Saturday
Funeral services will be held at two o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Methodist church in Grundy Center. Burial will be in the family lot in the Grundy Center cemetery.
Surviving are the daughter, Mrs. Noela Duncan, and one son, John LuRae, Revis Airbase, Calif. There are four surviving brothers and one sister. The brothers are George, Fred and Frank, Cedar Falls, and Walter, Conrad. The sister is Mrs. Delia Miller, Beaman, Iowa.
