Mrs. Carrie Vought Dies at Home Of Daughter

Mrs. Carrie Vought, who had been bedfast for the past 2 1/2 years at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Newville in Mason City, passed away Saturday afternoon. Funeral services were held Monday at the Dike Methodist church, conducted by Rev. J. B. Bird. Interment was in the Grundy Center cemetery by the side of her husband.

Carrie Belle Vought was born in Potter county, Pennsylvania, March 29, 1866, daughter of Ransom and Phoebe Langdon. As a child she came with her parents to live on a farm near Cedar Falls. She attended Iowa State Normal school and engaged in teaching until she was united in marriage to Charles D. Vought on Nov. 6, 1889.

To this union were born three daughters, Almeda, Edna and Vera.

They started housekeeping on a farm in Grundy county, moving later to Dike where they lived for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles and daughter Almeda. Two years ago she went to Mason City to live with her daughter, Mrs. Frank Newville. Surviving are her two daughters, Mrs. Frank Newville of Mason City, Iowa, and Mrs. Karl Martin of Redfield, Ia., a sister, Mrs. Bert McGuire, Ocean Park, California, and a brother, Charles Langdon, Mountain View, Missouri. There are four grandchildren, Marvin C. Grimm, still serving with the armed forces near Munich, Germany, and Gene, Joannine, and Roger Martin of Redfield, Iowa.
