Mary Ellen Stock was born December 18, 1919 and died November 23,2012. She was preceded in death by her husband Henry W. Stock, and is survived by sons Bill Stock and Bob Stock, and daughter Beth Stock Palmer, ten grandchildren: Todd and Trevor Stock, Chris Stock, Andre and A.J. LaBranche, Ellen Palmer Johnston and Annie Palmer Fish, Shane Weickum, Mary Weickum, and Robert Rudd. There are thirteen great-grandchildren.

Mary Ellen was born in Reinbeck, Iowa and from the age of eleven resided in Grundy Center, Iowa. She graduated from Grundy Center High School in 1936 at age 16. In her early working life she was a clerical assistant in several law offices. In 1939 she was married to Henry Stock of Morrison, Iowa. During the war he was stationed at Camp Atterbury, Indiana and they both worked there, before returning to Grundy Center. In 1946 Mary Ellen joined the staff at Grundy National Bank where in a number of capacities she remained until her retirement in 1982. She was a founding board member of the Grundy Center Recreation Department and in 1982 an award for tennis excellence was established in her name, the Mary Ellen Stock Annual Tennis Award. She continued her long tenure with the GNB past retirement serving each month on Social Security days as greeter and social liaison until 1996. Also during her retirement she began to take English and literature courses at the University of Northern Iowa and from the University of Iowa by correspondence. On the eve of her 86th birthday she received her degree from UNI, 70 years after high school graduation. She was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and St. Monica's study club.

Mrs. Stock in recent years lived with her daughter and son-in-law B.E. Palmer, and was for a time at Stones River Manor, Sunnington Assisted Living, and NHC. Their care for her is greatly appreciated as well as the care of the clergy and laity of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, and Dr. Steve Odom.

There will be a Requiem Mass to be celebrated at St. Patrick's Church in Parkersburg Iowa, Thursday November 29 at 10 a.m. followed by a graveside service at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Grundy Center Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mary Ellen Stock Annual Tennis Award in care of Grundy National Bank, Grundy Center, Iowa.
