Joseph Hummel Passed Away

The death of Franz Joseph Hummel occurred at his home in this city at an early hour Tuesday morning. Mr. Hummel had been sick but about two weeks and death came unexpectedly. He had been suffering with a slight attack of the pneumonia. The funeral services were held this morning at ten o'clock at the Catholic church, Father Hogan officiating. The remains were interred in the Catholic cemetery.

Mr. Hummel was born at Baten, Germany, March 1847, and died at his home, December 10, 1907, being in his sixtieth year. He came to America in August of the year 1874, locating at Cedar Falls where he followed his trade as a shoemaker. After residing at Cedar Falls for a short time he moved to Parkersburg, and in 1877 he came to Grundy Center where he has since made his home. He leaves four brothers and three sisters to mourn his departure; A. and M. Hummel of Grundy Center, R. Hummel, of Cedar Falls and W. Hummel of Germany, Mrs. Frank Swap of Finchford, Iowa, and Mrs. Webber also of Germany. Of late years he has conducted one of the local pool halls. During his many residence he has formed many acquaintances and friends who will miss him from among the early residents of Grundy Center.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Swap of Finchford and Mr. and Mrs. R. Hummel of Cedar Falls were in attendance at the funeral.
