Walter S. Palmer Dies At Hospital

Walter S. Palmer died at five o'clock Friday morning at University hospital at Iowa City. He was twice a patient at the hospital. On February 17th, he had one of his legs amputated. A few weeks before his death he was taken back to the hospital. While his condition was regarded as quite serious it was not believed that he was in immediate danger until death came from a heart complication. He had been in failing health about five years from diabetes and a heart ailment.

The body was brought to the Engelkes Funeral Home in Grundy Center. Funeral services were held at the Engelkes Funeral Home at two o'clock on Monday. Burial was in the Grundy Center cemetery. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. F. J. Langenberg.

Born in Grundy Center in 1881
Walter Palmer was born in Grundy Center April 19, 1881. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Dave Palmer. He grew up here. On July 17th, 1901, he and Pearl Sweet were married in Grundy Center. They lived here the first eight years of their married life, after which they moved to Fort Dodge and remained there until 1925 when they returned to Grundy Center where they remained permanently.

He served as a teamster while living in Fort Dodge. For eleven years he engaged in county road work. For a time he also followed the carpenter trade.

Surviving are his wife, some nephews and cousins.
