John P. Bettenga Dies Thursday

John P. Bettenga died at his home in Holland last Thursday. He had been in failing health for several years. He was afflicted with dropsy and other complications which brought on his death. While he had been in a weakened physical condition for several months, he was confined to his bed for less than a week before the end came. He was 75 years old.

Funeral services were held at 1 o'clock at the home Monday and later at the Christian Reformed church in Holland. Rev. Henry Petersen conducted the services. Burial was in the Holland cemetery.

Mr. Bettenga was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Bettenga. He was born at Freeport, Ill., January 4, 1874. At the age of 5 he came with his parents to Grundy county where the family made their home on a Colfax township farm and where John grew to manhood.

On April 28, 1925, he and Tillie Venenga were married at Waverly, Iowa. For five years after their marriage they lived on the home farm in Colfax township. The next three years they lived on a farm near Windom, Minn. Later they lived for two years in Sibley and then one year in Parkersburg. The family lived in other parts of Grundy county until 1942 when they moved to Holland where they have since resided.

Surviving are the wife and two sons, Paul and Arnold, who have been making their home with their parents. Other surviving relatives are two brothers, Everett from Carthage, Mo., and William from Ackley.
