S. J. Voetberg Dies At Traer

S. J. Voetberg a former resident of Grundy Center, died Sunday at his home in Traer. He had undergone a surgical operation at Allen Memorial hospital in Waterloo three weeks before his death. Cancer was the cause of his death. He was 76 years old.

Funeral services were held at the Bethany Presbyterian church in Grundy Center Wednesday afternoon. Burial was in the Grundy Center cemetery. Rev. F. J. Langenberg, pastor of Bethany church, officiated at the service.

Mr. Voetberg was born Dec. 1, 1872, in Olderboorn, Friesland province, Holland, son of Hendrick and Grace Voetberg. He married Miss Christina Habermehl in Holland May 4, 1894. In 1910 he and his wife and four children came to the United States and homesteaded at Conrad, Montana, for several years; later farmed near Pipestone, Minn., and in 1931 he and his wife moved to Grundy Center where they retired.

Mrs. Voetberg died March 11, 1948, at Grundy Center. In October of last year he went to Traer where he had since made his home with his son. He was a member of Bethany Presbyterian church.

Surviving are two sons, Dr. D. N. Voetberg, Traer, and Dr. Henry G. Voetberg, Garner; two daughters, Mrs. Burton Armstrong, Las Vegas, N.M., and Miss Hilda Voetberg, Santa Fe, N.M. A daughter, Grace, died in 1905.
