Rudolph R. Hook, son of Rudolph and Anna Hook, was born May 21, 1889, in Pleasant Valley township, Grundy county, where he grew to manhood. He was married to Anna VanLengen March 14, 1914, and moved to a farm near Aplington where they resided until 1943. Then they retired and moved to Aplington. Mr. Hook passed away March 26, 1949, at the age of 59 years, 10 months and 5 days after a lingering illness. He is survived by his widow, three sons, Rudolph Jr., at home, Ben of Parkersburg and Harlan of Aplington; two daughters, Mrs. Abe Hilsenga of Ackley and Doris at home, and three grandchildren. Also two brothers, Ben of Parkersburg and Harm of Aplington; two sisters Mrs. Grace Heerts of Grundy Center and Mrs. Rudolph Ostendorf of Parkersburg. Mr. Hook also leaves a large host of relatives and friends in the Aplington community.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, March 30, 1949, at 1 p.m. at the house and 1:30 p.m. at the Aplington Reformed church. The committal services were held at the Pleasant View Cemetery, Aplington, with Rev. A. J. Koopman officiating.
