Luther Bowers Dies In Hospital

Luther Bowers, a longtime resident of Grundy county, died in St. Thomas hospital in Marshalltown Friday morning. He had been a hospital patient two weeks before his death. He was bedfast the past year following a stroke. He was 77 years old.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Pursel funeral home in Marshalltown. Rev. Lokensgard officiated at the service. Burial was in the Alice cemetery.

Mr. Bowers was born near Woodstock, W. Va., March 26, 1872. He came to Iowa with his parents when 13 and settled near Newburg. From 1898, with the exception of seven years in North Dakota, he farmed in the vicinity of Conrad until 16 years ago when he moved to Marshalltown.

He married Luella Boyle of Conrad on Aug. 26, 1900. The widow survives.

Other survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Earl Poe and Alva and Ruth Bowers of Ames, and Mrs. Carl Youngblood, Albion; 2 brothers, Cornelius of Torrance, Calif., and Charles, Grundy Center; four sisters, Mrs. Mark Rolston and Mrs. Cora Hurdle of Conrad, Mrs. Mae Richtmeier of Hampton, and Mrs. James Morgan, Pasadena, Calif., and eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild. A son, Ralph, was killed in an airplane crash at Arlington in 1948.
