MISNER, POFFENBERGER

Mrs. Mary Poffenberger Misner was born near Hagerstown, in Washington County, Maryland in 1845. She was the daughter of Samuel and Katherine Poffenberg. At six years of age she moved with her parents to Carroll County, Illinois, near Mt. Carroll where she lived until she was united in marriage to Martin Misner in 1865. They lived in Mt. Carroll until 1880 when they moved to Grundy Center and have since resided here. To this union 11 children were born, 8 boys and 3 girls. Four of them preceding her in death in infancy.

She died at her home in Grundy Center Monday morning at 4 April 22nd, 1918 at the age of 73 years, one month, and 17 days.

She leaves to mourn her death her husband and 7 children and two brothers, one brother dying last Thursday and laid to rest Sunday. The brothers living are Samuel Poffenberger of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, and John Poffenberg of Waterloo. The children are as follows: D. B. Misner and Oscar of Minneapolis, Harry Misner of Chicago, R. J. Misner of Waterloo, Mrs. W. A. Elliott of Morrison, Mrs. Anna Elliott and Elizabeth Misner of Grundy Center. All of them present at the funeral and a nephew Coyle Poffenberg of Blairsburg. She also leaves to mourn her death 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mrs. Misner was raised in a Christian home and was a member of the church of God, until she moved to Grundy Center, where she united with the Methodist church and has since been a faithful Christian. She was loved and worshiped by her family and friends and was always ready to help those in need.

The funeral services were held in the Methodist church at 1:30 p.m. April 24th, conducted by Rev. Dilman Smith and she was laid to rest in the Clark cemetery.
