Obituary of Mrs. Irene Clark

Mrs. Irene Clark, who for several years has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. W. R. Laybourn at this place, died quite suddenly Monday evening at eight o'clock. She had been feeling poorly during the day, but no alarm was felt by the family until a few minutes before the end came. The relatives were summoned but did not reach her side before her spirit had departed.

Deceased was born in 1826 in Vermont. When quite young she moved to Canada and was there married to Phineas Cole. She moved to Illinois in 1854 and lived near Mt. Carrol until 1863 when she moved to Grundy county, just thirty-nine years ago. Since the death of her husband she has lived at Albion, Marshalltown and Grundy Center. Since being a widow she has lived most of the time with her daughter, Mrs. W. R. Laybourn. She had three sisters and four brothers. Only one sister survives her, Mrs. Polly Putney, of North Hartley, Canada. Her own family consisted of five children, three of whom are now living Mrs. S. R. Kelly of Henderson, Neb., Mrs. W. R. Laybourn and Ed Cole of this city.

Funeral services were held at the Laybourn residence Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock and the remains interred in the cemetery west of town.
