John Slyfer Died; Funeral Monday

John Slyfer, 87, who lived alone in the north part of Grundy Center for many years, died Saturday morning, March 2, at the Grundy County Memorial hospital. He had been a patient at the hospital since suffering a stroke two weeks ago.

The rosary was recited Sunday evening in the Ferree Funeral Home. Services were held Monday morning in Sacred Heart catholic church with burial in the church cemetery.

Mr. Slyfer was born March 24, 1880, in Murmewoude, Holland, and came to America in 1911. He lived with Mr. and Mrs. William Dekker in Grundy Center until their death. He was a farm laborer in this area for many years.

Survivors include two nephews, Albert and Joe Dekker, Grundy Center, and nieces Mrs. Freda Bottema and Mrs. Wallace (Margaret) Norman of Grundy Center, Mrs. Johanna Long of Eldora, and Mrs. Orville (Gezenna) Loveless of LaPorte City. He was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.
