Will A. Dekker Dies At Hospital
William A. Dekker died at St. Francis hospital, Waterloo, about 11 o'clock on Wednesday. He had been afflicted with a weak heart for some time, and two weeks ago he contracted pneumonia and was taken to the hospital. He was 67 years old.
Funeral services will be held at the Catholic church in Grundy Center at 10 o'clock Saturday morning. Burial will be in the Grundy Center cemetery.
Mr. Dekker was born in The Netherlands in Europe Jan. 28, 1878.
He came to this country 43 years ago, and seven years later returned to The Netherlands where he married Marie Slyfer Feb. 22, 1909. They returned to this country shortly thereafter.
He was engaged in farming until eight years ago, when they retired and moved to Grundy Center. During the summer of 1944 he was employed by War Hemp Industries at Grundy Center.
He is survived by his widow; four daughters, Freda H., Mrs. Tom Bottema of Windom, Minn.; Johanna, Mrs. Howard Long of Whitten; Margaret, Mrs. Wallace Norman, of Liscomb; Gezenna, Mrs. Orville Loveless, Mt. Auburn; two sons, Albert, at home, and Joe of Grundy Center; two brothers, Nick and Reinard, both of Kalamazoo, Mich. His parents, one sister and one brother preceded him in death. His daughters, Mrs. Wallace Norman and Mrs. Tom Bottema, were at his bedside. Surviving also are six grandchildren.
The body is at the Coffman funeral home.
