Earl Greany Dies Monday

Earl Greany, who had spent most of his active life in Grundy county, died at the hospital in Grundy Center, at nine o'clock Monday morning. Uremic poisoning was the cause of his death. He was taken to the hospital on February 12th. His condition grew gradually worse during the past two weeks and for several days before the end came hopes for his recovery were given up. Several years ago he was afflicted with ulcers of the stomach. Following an operation which removed much of the stomach his health was good until he was stricken with his last ailment. He would have been 63 years old had he lived until next May.

Funeral services were held at 9:30 Wednesday morning at Sacred Heart Catholic church, Grundy Center, with Rev. Fr. J. F. Kress officiating. Burial was in the Catholic cemetery at Grundy Center.

Earl Greany was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Greany. He was born in Centralia, Kansas, May 13, 1890. In 1904 the Greany family moved to Grundy county on a farm near Whitten. The following year they moved to one of the Boies farms southwest of Grundy Center where they resided several years.

February 12, 1913, Earl Greany and Hazel Huisman of Wellsburg were married at Waterloo. During the first 14 years of their married life they resided on farms in the vicinity of Parkersburg, Aplington and Wellsburg. They left the farm in 1927 and moved to Wellsburg, where he operated a tavern until about five years ago. He has been employed as county weed commissioner several years and was re-appointed to that position a few months ago by the county board of supervisors for the year 1953.

Surviving are the widow and one son, Duane, Grundy Center, and three grandchildren. Other surviving members of his family are three brothers and one sister. The brothers are Joe Greany of Grundy Center; William, Deer Lodge, Montana; and Richard of Anaconda, Montana. The one sister is Mrs. Leo Kelly, Missoula, Montana.
