George J. Seehusen, age 93, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the son of John and Dena (Gelder) Seehusen on October 28, 1910, in Grundy County, near Buck Grove, Aplington, Iowa. He was baptized as an infant at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wellsburg, Iowa. He received his education from a rural school near his home. He worked on the family farm, (Buck Grove and Fern areas) until he was old enough to travel to Minnesota to become a hired hand and worked for various farmers there for room, board, and a small salary.

On February 18, 1937, George was united in marriage with Katie DeVries at the parsonage of the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church, Holland, Iowa. They made their home and farmed in Grundy and Butler Counties. In 1959 they moved from the farm to a home in Parkersburg. George began working at the Waterloo Register Company, where he enjoyed various factory jobs until 1971. Following his retirement he worked part time for Palmers Grocery Store. For years he and his wife, Katie, were custodians at the Hope Reformed Church in Parkersburg, where they were devoted Charter members. George served on the Consistory and was on church committees at various times throughout its establishment and development. Katie died on February 24, 1978. George married Marian Abbas on July 5, 1980, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They made their home in Parkersburg and he became a member of the Christian Reformed Church. George enjoyed woodworking, traveling with Marian, gardening and took great pride in their yard.

On July 1, 2002, George was admitted as a resident of Ackley Presbyterian Village and died on January 19, 2004, of natural causes.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Katie Seehusen; a great grandson, Daran Cordes; parents; one brother, John Seehusen; three sisters, Grace Rewerts, Bertha Henze and Annie Muller.

George is survived by his wife, Marian Seehusen; one son, Roger (Sharon); four daughters, Darlene (Darwin) Nicklaus, Arvilla (Gary), Marlys (David) Fisher and Cathy (Daryl) Myers; 12 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; one step-son, Ron (Marlene) Abbas; two step-daughters, Vickie (George) Streich and Sharon (Roger) Seehusen; six step-grandchildren; seven step-great grandchildren; one brother, Dick (Rose) Seehusen; and one brother-in-law, Clarence Muller.

Funeral Services were held 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 23, 2004 at the Christian Reformed Church in Parkersburg, Iowa with Rev. Frank Pott officiating. The organist was Janet Johnson. Vocalist Richard Schafer sang “Sheltered Safe in the Arms Of Jesus.” Congregational hymns were “Old Rugged Cross,” and “What a Day That Will Be.” Casketbearers were Shawn Seehusen, Bill Myers, Dalen Fisher, Rod Cordes, Dale Meester, and Paul Cook. Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Parkersburg, Iowa. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home, Parkersburg, was in charge of arrangements.
