Ardella Leona Hansen, age 60 years, 8 months and 7 days, of Aplington, Iowa, was born in rural Stout, Iowa, to John Jr. and Anna (Schipper) Marks on January 27, 1944. Ardella accepted Christ as a teen on the farm and made her public confession of faith at First Reformed Church in Aplington.

On August 31, 1962, Ardella Marks was united in marriage with William Allan Hansen at the First Presbyterian Church in Aplington. They made their home and raised their family in Aplington. Ardella was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Aplington, where she has held office in the Aplington Presbyterian Women and circle groups, taught and attended Sunday School for many years and enjoyed attending Wednesday morning Bible study. She also helped with Vacation Bible School, the AWANA’s program and served on the Christian Education Committee. This past spring she was honored by receiving the lifetime award for APW. Ardella was also active and held office in the Christian Women’s Club and the TOPS organization. In her early years, she played basketball and was in track. She loved cleaning and painting for people. She enjoyed flowers and gardening. Ardella was always ready to play games, cards, and entertain her family and friends. She especially enjoyed spending time with their children and grandchildren.

Ardella died Monday, October 4, 2004, at the Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, Iowa, from natural causes.

She was preceded in death by her parents John Jr. and Anna Marks.

Ardella is survived by her husband, William Allan Hansen; four children, Debbie Kay (Terry) Tellinghuisen, Danny Ray Hansen, Denise Ranae Hansen, and Darla Jo (Eugene) Ubben; eight grandchildren, Evan & Ethan Tellinghuisen, Kirsten, Brianna & Spencer Hansen, Conner, Samantha & Madison Ubben; one sister Dorthy (Kenny) Mehmen; and five brothers, JB (Elizabeth) Marks, Roger (Joyce) Marks, Gary (Shirley) Marks, Orlyn (Wendy) Marks and Randy Marks.

Funeral Services were at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, October 7, 2004, at the First Presbyterian Church in Aplington, Iowa. Officiating were Rev. Greg Smith & Rev. Donald Patet, the organist was Leneé Pollock, three Soloist were Lori Uhlenhopp san “Light Your Candle,” Charlene Kramer san “One Day At A Time” and Scott Marks sang “The Lord’s Prayer” and also was signed by Rebecca Marks and the Congregational Hymns were “Have Thine Own Way Lord” and “Just As I Am.” The Casketbearers were Scott Marks, David Mehmen, Joel Marks, Bryon Marks, Mark Uhlenhopp, Brandon Marks and Karl Uhlenhopp. Interment was at the Pleasant View Cemetery rural Aplington, Iowa. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Aplington were in charge of the arrangements.
