Leona Hoffman, age 91, of Aplington, Iowa, was born November 30, 1912, the daughter of Lammert and Lena DeWeerdt Hoffman at their home in rural Grundy County, Iowa, near Buck Grove township. Leona lived and worked most of her life on the Hoffman farm until moving to Parkersburg in 1972. She loved to work on the farm, especially with her flowers and very much enjoyed the cats on the farm. She was a member of the Aplington Baptist Church. She enjoyed getting together with her family and loved to play cards with nieces and nephews.

Leona died Friday April 9, 2004, after a short stay at Maple Manor Care Center of natural causes.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; John, Louis, and two died in infancy; one sister, Vera Hoffman and one niece, Lisa Schultz.

Leona is survived by; one brother, Carl (Bert) Hoffman; one sister, Ethel Avery; four nieces, Norleen Willis, Ivadeen Proffitt, Charlotte Miller and Ester Gonnerman; one nephew, Paul Hoffman.

Funeral Service were held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 13, 2004 at the Aplington Baptist Church, Aplington, Iowa with Pastor Dan Smith officiating. Organist Lois Wessels accompanied Congregational Hymns “How Great Thou Art” and “Amazing Grace.” Casketbearers were Bruce Badgley, Bill Cooper, Kevin Rogers, Jim Cooper Kelly Lamgholz and Arnie Finch. Honorary Casketbearers were Mike Mulder, Doug Proffitt, Paul Willis, Dean Proffitt and Chuck Miller. Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery, Aplington, Iowa. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home, Parkersburg, was in charge of arrangements.
