Taps sounded for an old soldier Tuesday night in the passing of Seneca Thompson at the home of his son Grover, at Traer. The deceased had been a resident of Grundy county for thirty years and was quite well known here.

Seneca Thompson was born in Rutland, Vt., Feb. 23, 1837, and died at Traer, Iowa, Feb. 25, 1913, at the age of 76 years and two days. The deceased moved, when a small boy, with his parents to Illinois, where he grew to manhood and continued to reside until 1882, when he came to Grundy county which has since been his home.

Mr. Thompson was united in marriage to Miss Sybil Davis in Nov. 1862. To this union were born four sons, Ray E., Grover, Fred O., and Bert J., all of whom survive the father. Mrs. Thompson died April 30, 1891.

Mr. Thompson served three years in the Union Army. He was a member of the Wilson Post of the G.A.R., which organization had charge of the funeral service this afternoon from the Methodist church. Rev. Keeler preached the funeral sermon. The remains were laid to rest beside those of his wife in the cemetery west of town.
