Jeanette Meester, 84, of Holland died Saturday, July 31, 2004, unexpectedly at her home of natural causes. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, August 5 at Pleasant Valley Reformed Church, rural Holland, with Pastor Russell Muilenberg officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Valley Reformed Church Cemetery, rural Holland. A memorial fund has been established.

Jeanette was born December 27, 1919, at home on the farm near Stout, the daughter of Anton and Lena (Rewerts) Reiter. Jeanette attended rural country school near Stout. While growing up, Jeanette worked for several area families as a hired girl. On October 11, 1940, Jeanette was united in marriage to Thomas C. Meester at the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church Parsonage in rural Holland. After their marriage, they farmed together on a farm one mile north of Holland from 1940 to 1980. In October 1980, they retired and moved in to Holland to their new house that Jeanette helped to design. Jeanette's husband Thomas died May 25, 1998, but she continued to make her home in Holland. Jeanette was a member of Pleasant Valley Reformed Church, where she had taught both Bible and Sunday school for many years. She loved her family and friends. She also enjoyed gardening and nature, and had a special love for her flowers, which she was able to care for until this past week. Jeanette was a talented seamstress and also made many needlecraft and oil painting projects. She could make or build anything; and fix everything. Her loving companions were her two special cats. She had been looking forward to moving to Arlington Place in Grundy Center on August 2. Jeanette had been anxiously waiting for many years to meet her God.

She is survived by one daughter Delores "Dee" Horwedel and her husband Everette of Marion; one grandson, Mike Horwedel of Minnetonka, MN; two sisters Gertie Luhring of Cedar Falls, and Ester Eisentrager and her husband Richard of Dumont; two brothers Leroy Reiter and his wife Sydney of Shell Rock, and Alvin Reiter and his wife Betty of Ackley; and a dear friend LaVonne Hook of Grundy Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Tom; one son Ron Meester in 1971; one grandson Steve Horwedel in 1992; two brothers Lawrence Reiter and Fred Reiter; and two sisters Alma Bergmann and Etta Borneman.
