APLINGTON - Elwin Finger, 78, formerly of Aplington, died Friday, Nov. 16, at the Ackley Presbyterian Village, Ackley, of natural causes.
He was born Dec. 15, 1928, in rural Grundy County, Aplington, son of Ed and Tillie Boelman Finger. He married Irene Janssen on Nov. 6, 1948, in the parsonage at St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Wellsburg.
He received his education from a rural country school. Mr. Finger and his wife made their home and farmed in Grundy County south of Aplington. He was a dairy and grain farmer and raised livestock. He owned and operated Finger Repair in Aplington, where he repaired radios and televisions for many years. Elwin also was a school bus driver for Aplington Schools for 22 years.
Survived by: his wife; a son, Dale of Forest City; three daughters, Judy (David) Kuper, Karla Kramer and Lorie Harrenstein, all of Ackley; seven grandchildren, Chad (Deb) Kuper, Kristi (Trent) Ploeger, Randy Kramer, Micah Finger, Tyrel Finger, Casie (Danny) Richtsmeier and Anne (Travis DeGroote) Harrenstein; 10 great-grandchildren, Lauren, Colin and Kyle Kuper, James and Megan Ploeger, Tylen and Hailea Finger, Hannah and Mattie Richtsmeier and Trendon Harrenstein; and a brother-in-law, Oscar Meyer of Aplington.
Preceded in death by: two sons, Trent, on Oct. 30, 1979, and Eldon, on Aug. 23, 1982; a great-grandson, Dylan Richtsmeier; his parents; a brother, George, killed in World War II; and three sisters, Lillian Kruger, Gladys Meyer and Matilda Spieker.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's United Church of Christ, with burial in the church cemetery, both in rural Wellsburg. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Redman-Schwartz Funeral Chapel, Aplington, and for an hour before services Monday at the church.
