Austinville Resident Found Dead

Austinville--Medical officers and law enforcement officials are continuing their investigation into the death of an Austinville man who was found dead in his home following a fire early Saturday morning.

Butler County Sheriff Pete Boomgarden identified the man as Carl Boelman, about 51, who was found dead in the bedroom of the home he occupied alone here. He had evidently been overcome by smoke.

While there was no evidence of foul play in the fire that caused only minor damage, the medical examiner said Saturday that the body would be taken to Allen Hospital in Waterloo for an autopsy.

No funeral arrangements for Boelman had been scheduled as of Saturday afternoon.

He is survived by his widow, Lydia, who lives in Aplington and his father, George Boelman, of Ackley.

A chair where Boelman usually sat was burned completely and a hole was burned in the floor just in front of where the chair was located.

Firemen theorized a spark may have ignited the chair, causing dense smoke to fill the house.
