Mrs. Ubbo Tholen Died Monday
Mrs. Ubbo Tholen, nee Gesena Diekhoff, passed away at her home in Parkersburg early Monday morning, following a six weeks' illness. The deceased was born at West Phauderfehn, Germany, Feb. 4, 1861. At the age of 7 years she in company with her mother and two brothers came to America, following the father and two brothers who were already here. They first settled at Adeline, Ill., later moving to Iowa and settling near Fern. Later the Diekhoff family bought a farm near Stout, where the deceased lived with her parents until her marriage to Ubbo Tholen in 1886. The family then moved on a farm near Wellsburg where they lived until the departure of her husband 46 years ago. For the past 35 years Mrs. Tholen lived in Parkersburg. She passed away Monday at the age of 83 years, 3 months and 25 days.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter aged one year, one small son at the age of two years, a son William at the age of 17 years, and son Frederick, age 38 years. The deceased leaves to mourn one son, Carl, who was at home with her; one brother, Dick Diekhoff of Rochester, Minn.; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Wm. Diekhoff of Oregon, Ill., and Mrs. Carrie Tholen of Winnebago, Ill., who faithfully helped care for her the past month; also three nieces and ten nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the Congregational church in Parkersburg Thursday afternoon, following a short service at the home at one o'clock. Rev. A. Linneman of the Reformed church will officiate. Burial will be at the St. Peter's Evangelical Reformed church cemetery near Wellsburg.
