Youth Killed By A Falling Tree

Youth Killed By Tree Falling On Him

George Janssen, 16, southeast of Ackley, Met Sudden Death

George Janssen, a 16-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Janssen, living five miles southeast of Ackley, met a sudden death Monday afternoon, while attempting to remove a grapevine, from a tree, that appears to have been quite rotten. The youth was working with a tractor, and as the machine pulled, the tree was broken off. His skull was crushed.

The Janssen family has experienced considerable illness and misfortune during the recent past. Two little girls in the family were stricken with infantile paralysis, and Mrs. Janssen recently suffered a paralytic stroke.

George, the unfortunate youth, was born in Franklin county, Feb. 7, 1925. The family removed to Grundy county. His parents, a twin brother, two other brothers and two sisters, survive.

Funeral services were held at St. Peter's Evangelical church, in German township, Thursday afternoon; they were conducted by Rev. Hesse, pastor, and the boy's remains were interred in the cemetery adjoining the church.
