Dana R. Grimm, 61, of Grundy Center passed away on Friday, December 25, 2015 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital. Dana was born on December 1, 1954 at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Melvin and Marilyn (Klein) Grimm.
Dana grew up in the Dysart area and graduated from Dysart High School in 1973. Dana married Virginia "Jinny" Smith in 1974 and they were later divorced. They had two children Brian and Becky.
Dana was an auto mechanic for the Chevy dealership in Reinbeck, Iowa and then went to work for the Ford dealership in Grundy Center before getting a job at Fischer Controls in Marshalltown, Iowa. There he worked for 19 years as a machinist and Welder. He also was co-owner of Grundy Welding & Machine in Grundy Center for numerous years before selling it. He then went to college for several years starting at Marshalltown Community College and finishing at UNI in Cedar Falls for AutoCAD. He worked for a short while for several other businesses including John Deere. The last few years he worked for Jesco Welding until his health failed.
Over the years Dana enjoyed going to flea markets, liked antiques of all kinds and especially liked old gas engines. He enjoyed working on cars and going to car shows. He enjoyed gun shows, target shooting at the gun range, and fishing. Dana also enjoyed talking with the old guys about the past and spending time with the Buckskinners. He also enjoyed working with plants and woodworking. Dana was very talented with welding and machining. He repaired and created many items for numerous farmers, businesses and people in the area. He also enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, family and friends.
He is survived by his children Brian (Annie) Grimm of Grundy Center and Becky (Josiah) Wildebour of Morrison; his grandchildren Tristan, Aaron, Kenzi, Trevar and one step-granddaughter River. His father Melvin (Irene) Grimm of Dysart; his brother Barry (Tara) Grimm of Dysart; his sisters Tamara Garwood of Grundy Center and Brenda (Jerry) Baldwin of Inver Grove Heights, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother Marilyn.
