Thursday Rites For Ethel Kell
Ethel Kell, 88, a lifetime resident of Conrad, passed away on Monday, February 13, at her home.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 16, 1:30, at First Presbyterian Church, Conrad, with Rev. Timothy Soule officiating.
George Bienfang, Vern Bienfang, Arlon Bienfang, Delbert Kell, Sam Kell, Jr., and Robert Zern will serve as casketbearers.
Mrs. Marian Walling will be the organist, and Hazel Koehler and Lucille Jebousek will handle the floral arrangements.
Burial will be at the Conrad Cemetery, Conrad.
Ethel Kell was born November 14, 1900, in Palermo Township, Grundy county, the daughter of Jeremiah and Lucinda Bockes Mast. She attended Palermo #8 Country School.
Ethel was united in marriage to Orville D. Kell on November 28, 1922, at Alice Church of God in Conrad. She and her husband owned and operated Kell's Texaco gas station and cafe on the Conrad Corner from 1947 to 1957; she was employed at Koehler's Cafe, Conrad, from 1958 to 1960; she then worked in the kitchen at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital, Grundy Center, from 1960 until her retirement in 1982.
Ethel was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Conrad, and its Presbyterian Women, a 50-plus year member of the St. Elmo Chapter OES #398, and its Past Matron's Group, and a member of the Conrad American Legion Auxiliary Unit #681.
She is preceded in death by her husband in 1974; her parents; two sisters; two brothers; and one daughter, Jean.
Ethel is survived by one son, Jay D. Kell, Sylmar, CA; two daughters, Joan (Mrs. Richard) Whitaker, New Carrollton, MD, and Joyce (Mrs. Ed) Hughes, of Marshalltown; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mae Bienfang, LaPorte City.
Memorials may be directed to Iowa River Hospice.
The Johnston Funeral Home in Conrad was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
