Rites Held For Mrs. Claussen

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday afternoon for Mrs. Isabelle Cooper Claussen, 105, of Reinbeck, from the United Church of Christ, Reinbeck, with Pastor J. Allan Mittler, officiating.

Interment was in the Reinbeck Cemetery.

Mrs. Isabelle Claussen, 105, passed away at the Parkview Manor Care Center in Reinbeck Friday evening where she had resided since June 1983.

Born in Clinton county on November 7, 1884, she was the daughter of John and Isabelle Porter Cooper. She came to Reinbeck at an early age where she received her education and with some college she taught schools in Winnebago county at Buffalo Center, Thompson, and Forest City prior to coming to Reinbeck, teaching for 10 years.

On February 18, 1914, in Reinbeck, she was united in marriage to Marcus Mike Claussen of Reinbeck. The couple farmed south of Reinbeck until 1942 when they moved into town.

Mrs. Claussen enjoyed sports, her family, music, flowers and working in her yard with flowers.

Mrs. Claussen was a member of the United Church of Christ.

Preceding her in death were her husband in November 1970, a grandson Kenneth in 1986, and a great-grandson Brandon in 1979, four brothers, Sherman, Earl, Merl and Glen, four sisters, Anna Mae and Carrie in early childhood, Mary McDowell and Eliza Olson.

Surviving are three children, Merle M. Claussen of Reinbeck, Annabelle (Mrs. Henry) Ward of Reinbeck and John Lee Claussen of Hudson. Mrs. Claussen raised Eliza's children, Claire (Ole) Olson (died in 1969), Stella (Mrs. James) Neil of Waterloo, and Emma (Mrs. Max) Kelly of Hudson. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and four great-great-granddaughters. Three step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren also survive.
