Louis Bakker Rites Thursday

Funeral services for Louis Bakker, 63, of rural Dike, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, at the Lincoln Center Christian Reformed Church. Louis passed away January 1, at Sartori Hospital in Cedar Falls. The Dike Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Rites Held For Louis Bakker

Louis Carl Bakker was born November 27, 1926, in Grundy County, Iowa, the son of Menne and Grace Beninga Bakker. He passed away Monday, January 1, 1990, at Sartori Memorial Hospital, Cedar Falls, Iowa, having attained the age of 63 years, 1 month and 5 days.

Louis was born, raised, and lived all of his life on the same farm three miles west of Dike, Iowa. He graduated from Dike High School in 1945. He farmed over 400 acres of corn, soybeans, and oats, and also raised hogs.

On January 27, 1949, he was united in marriage to Jennie Viet in Grundy county, Iowa. Louis was a lifelong member of the Lincoln Center Christian Reformed Church, rural Grundy Center, Iowa, where he was active as an elder, deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was also an active member of the Fair Board and the Fireman's Board. He formerly served on the Dike School Board, the Farm Bureau Board, as well as on the Elevator Board. He was a World War II veteran, having served 14 months in the United States Army.

Louis will be remembered for his love of life and of people. He always had time for everyone.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Gerald; and one nephew.

Surviving him are his wife, Jennie of rural Dike, Iowa; his children: Mary Lou Bakker of Los Angeles, CA, Ronald Bakker and wife Shelly, Charles Bakker and wife Barb, Jeffrey Bakker and wife Karen, Larry Bakker and wife LeAnn, Loren Bakker and wife Jacque, Curtis Bakker, and Michael Bakker, all of Dike, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; three brothers, Herman Bakker of Holland, Iowa, John Bakker of Dike, Iowa, and Rev. Paul Bakker of LuVerne, MN; and one sister, Mrs. Joe (Elsie) Graves of Grundy Center, Iowa.

Funeral services for Mr. Bakker were held at the Lincoln Center Christian Reformed Church, rural Grundy Center, IA, on Thursday, January 4, at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Douglas H. Bratt officiated.

Mr. Craig DeBerg sang "How Great Thou Art." The congregation sang "He Leadeth Me." They were accompanied by Bert Kruse, organist, and Beulah Graves, pianist, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

The casket bearers were Glen Bakker, Dale Bakker, Wayne Graves, Robert Viet, Dennis Viet, Delbert VanHauen, and Vernon Beninga.

Ben Oltman, Dennis Graves, Delbert Meyer and Eldon Dieken were ushers. Agnes Riebkes, Elna Dieken and Ann Meyer were in charge of floral arrangements.

Interment was in the Lincoln Township Cemetery, Grundy County, IA. Military rites were conducted by Dike American Legion Post #471.

Dike Funeral Chapel, Dike, IA, was in charge of professional arrangements.
